How to Fix Cracks in a Teak Dining Table

Teak is a very durable wood used in outdoor furniture, floors and boats. Most cracks occur therein due to constant exposure to changes in climatic conditions and inadequate drying during the manufacturing process. The color change is normal, and does not weaken the wood. Wash down with a mild detergent and a brush to remove dirt and debris. Rinse teak dining table thoroughly and let dry completely. Drying times vary with time and temperature.

Wipe the surface of the crack with bronze wool to remove loose chips. Apply marine grade epoxy putty to crack and press in depth with a flexible spatula repair. This is a strong repair compound allows for expansion and contraction without Respiration. Constructing the epoxy mastic too slightly above the table surface. Let dry, usually two to four hours.

Sand the putty that is smooth and flush with the table surface. Clean the table with a tack cloth to pick up small pieces of putty and sawdust. Apply several coats of Tung oil with disposable foam brush to restore and preserve teak dining table. Apply as many coats as wood accepted. Once an oily sheen remains on the surface, the wood will not accept more oil.
