Measure twice, select once. The most important factor in choosing a rustic wood dining table is the size of your dining room or other area where you shop. It’s frustrating to go shopping, choose a dining table that you absolutely love, get it home and then find out that it’s too big for space. Know the recommended guidelines space. Even though a dining table does not seem to be proportional to that space, keep in mind that neither of your family members nor guests wants to squeeze through narrow spaces to take another drink or make a trip to the ladies room. Once you have measured the room, make sure the table you buy allows 30-36 inches around the perimeter of the table for scooting chairs back and walking.

Think of your size needs. Once you know the maximum size of the table that you can fit into the room, consider how the table will be used. Not everyone is up to dinner for 20 people. Buy a square table for intimate settings. If you have a smaller room to work with and think about creating an intimate atmosphere, buy a square table in proportion to the measurements of the room. Square tables accommodate two to four people and act as real space savers. The only downside to a square table is that it cannot accommodate a large group for temporary supper. Seat more people with a rectangular table. When you turn a larger room into a dining area, a rectangular table is a good option because it accommodates more people than a square table.

It also plays a room’s length, maximizing the space and makes it look bigger. Make room for calls. Nothing encourages dinner conversation more than a round table. With round tables, everyone can see each other easily without having to tap the neck or move forward or backwards to see someone at the other end. But if they are easy to move around without sharp angles, sometimes round tables are not space efficient. Check out all your finish options. With the dining table finish, it’s again best to think about how to use the table and the look you are trying to achieve. You can choose between wood, veneer, acrylic and glass table tops; remember to think about durability, color and that will use the table most.
