The glass steering wheel was very rare until a process for pressing molten glass into a mold was developed in 1826. The press molds were made from cast iron. Mold smiths would leave the exact geometric patterns in iron, and should be poured into the hot liquid glass in the mold. Early antique glass door knobs buds had between six and 12 facets, or edges.
